I deal with a Hemoylotic anemia, which in itself is disgusting. I got to watch the temps, for, for me, it is a cold-antibody and the cold temps play havoc on my red blood cells, therefore, my oxygen levels.
So, I feel for anyone who has to weather any anemia. Here is an article about a Pgh. Steeler who weathered and still weathers, Sickle Cell and/or its trait. I wish him the very best.
…………
Ryan Clark will not play in Sunday’s AFC wild-card game in Denver.
The Steelers safety has the sickle cell trait, and his blood had a violent reaction to the high altitude after a game in Denver in 2007 that almost cost him his life. He had his spleen and gall bladder removed, lost more than 30 pounds and was out of football for 11 months.
Coach Mike Tomlin informed Clark he would not be playing and said it was an “easy decision.”
Since 2007, Clark has been told by doctors that he should be fine to play in high altitudes again since he no longer has the organ that were affected, but Tomlin decided not to play Clark two years ago when the Steelers were last in Denver, and will do the same Sunday.
Clark will be replaced in the starting lineup by Ryan Mundy, a Woodland Hills graduate.
Mundy (6-1, 209) has played in all 48 regular-season games in his three-year career, but has started only twice — both last year subbing for the injured Troy Polamalu at strong safety.
Mundy has 37 tackles this year playing mostly in a backup role.
